New Inake hose larger than old skimmer drain pipe

Hey guys and gals! Happy pool season!

So I switched from a cartridge filter to a new Intex Sand filter this year. I have everything installed - New output to pool, filter tank, filter glass, pump, and pre-filter...but when I went to connect the pre-filter to the old skimmer down drain, the hose has nowhere to connect to, and the down pipe is much smaller than the new hose lines. Unsure where to go now! Any suggestions? Will attach a pic in case my explanation is unclear.

So I was able to shimmy it on the skimmer drain pipe...would it be ok to put a hose clamp on it and have intake smaller than the hose right there?
