Hi All,
First time poster, I found this forum last year when we got our new pool. We had a new 21' foot round installed last year and I've been following the methods here on water testing/balancing since we got the pool and to date have never had a problem with algea or any other issue. I closed the pool last summer and opened this summer to a nice clean pool and chemically so far have been smooth sailing. I've followed the advise, reading pool school and doing my own testing with K2006.
The issue i have is I installed a new heat pump earlier this year. It is a Raypak 5450 103BTU. I thought i had installed it correctly. It appears to function fine (heats the water as it should). The problem is i have "ruptured" 3 filters. Never had an issue last summer with the filter. The pump I have is rated at 60GPM. I believe the heat pump can handle up to 80GPM. Without the heat pump my normal operating pressure is 14PSI. When i divert flow to the heater (I have a 3way valve installed on the outlet side of filter) the PSI jumps to 16. To me that seams normal. I'm at a loss on how/why these filters keep rupturing. I have tried diverting less water to the heat pump by not opening the valve all the way (the PSI remained at 14 no increase in pressure). I ran it through the heat pump 24hrs, shut it down and check the filter. The filter was fine i thought the problem was solved. 2 weeks later i have another ruptured filter. I have never noticed any high pressure, but it seams like continued flow through the heat pumps will rupture the filter. My pump runs about 6 hours a day. Currently i have bypassed the heater totally until i can get this figured out. Not super happy about replacing filters every few weeks.
I would appreciate any thoughts. I am attaching some pics of the install. Really don't know what to do from here. If i can't figure it out i will have to call in the big guns. (pool company that does service calls?).
Thanks,
James
