Hi, I'm relatively new to finding this forum so I know I have lots to learn. Hopefully I can get up to speed quickly with the help of you all. We have the design for our new pool as part of a backyard remodel. Dimensions are 20'6' x 39' with an extended "lap" area allowing a length of 54'3". My wife is a swimmer and when she can't get to her regular pool, she'll like doing laps here. Spa and a Baja shelf, otherwise pretty simple. Btw, after a quick review of these forums, I think our Baja shelf is too small. Our contractor for the whole project is going to bid this out soon, so I want to get thoughts/opinions on our design and anything else that I need to know.

We have two boys (one in college and one in high school). Considering putting in a basketball hoop along the bottom long end. I'm less of a fan partly for the aesthetics, but my wife thinks the kids will use it a ton. Thanks!

If they are already in college and high school, I would consider building for what you will use after they are out of the house. It was the same logic I used when the wife wanted to put in a slide.

This is a pool with a spa at 0”View attachment 364448it gives a completely different look than one with any raised wall.
Yup, that's what I'm thinking. On depth, right now the existing pool is about 3' at the shallow end and goes pretty quickly to 6' (by around half the pool length). The deep end is close to 10'. What we find is that nobody spends time in the deep end except for occasional cannonballs. And so our thought was to have the pool where you can stand pretty much the entire pool.
