Hello! Our new build is underway. The permits took forever, really just a month but when you're excited patience is in short supply lol, and we began on Thursday! We have sunny dry weather ahead for the next 10 days so I'm very excited to watch the progress continue. My husband and I had a good laugh this morning, because we originally considered doing this ourselves, but after watching how much progress was made in 2 days we agreed it would've taken us at least 3-4 months with our schedules. Makes the money spent well worth it!

Do you have your test kit yet? If not have a look at this: Test Kits Compared You might want to get a jump on it as you will have water in that pool before you know it!

We ended up with 3.5-5.5-3.5! We had to choose 3 liners in case they don’t have our top choice-blue slate, reef, and gray mosaic in that order. Thankfully this has been a very positive experience once the initial decisions were made! I think the hardest part is trying to layout the backyard the way we want. And how much concrete is too much lol.

I will get the equipment info and post here. I did have a question about filters. They’re saying they will upgrade us to a cartridge filter from conventional sand-is that actually an upgrade? Are those more challenging to work with?

Post a truckton of more build pics as the build progresses and we'll call it even.

Speaking of those pics. They're free and will be stored in the cloud forever, even if you lose your phone. Posting them here will also keep them in one place for easy finding in the future. I built last summer and already have gone to those pics many times to find a pipe/electric/bonding or even better, dig freely *without* finding them. Or when and how was XYZ done ? Did it break/change or was it always that way ? Get multiple shots from all angles of every detail.

When comparing, the TFpro comes with a $48 stirring device that none of us, not one of us that has one, would live without. We would order another one the spot if it broke, not even finishing what we were doing first.

The TFpro-salt (if applicable) has the stirrer too, and it adds a $30 salt test bundled for $20 more. Once you add what the other kits are missing, they're more expensive.

Nice. I've yet to see an ugly pool in person. I liken them to puppies. Sure you have your breed, but when another one is licking you to death with its kibble breath, it's impossible to not love him too. Or you're a monster. Take your pick.

Plus, once you see how far the colors swing like we already went over, you'll laugh you even cared.

Filters-Sand is the easiest to use but is behind the cartridge on cleaning ability but not by too much. I LOVE my sand filter over the old cartridge one.

Mine goes all year without cleaning and doesn't need a shop vac to remove the insides. For winter I can easily carry the pieces to the shed for storage where I would leave a 200lb or 300lb sand filter in place. 😛

And I have my own theory about the cleaning abilities being much closer than the manufacturers claim. Your yard dumps crud in the pool and that crud gets trapped in the filter. That crud filters even finer crud, beyond the capability of any filter. In (my never proved) theory, your yard drops the same debris regardless of the filter type, so your yard determines exactly how fine of filtering you get. The sand filter starts at a disadvantage when clean, but starts catching up immediately and it probably doesn't take long to match the other 2.

Plus, when it comes down to it, the least efficient sand filter still filters less than the naked eye can see, so the other two's performance claims are bragging rights only. Per the Googs, we can see down to .1 mm and the difference between sand and DE is .025 mm, or 4X smaller than what the eye can see.

IIRC correctly, we can see .1 mm and the difference between sand and DE is .025 mm, or 4X smaller than what the eye can see.

I came from a DE filter and loved it in how it cleared the water quickly and it was so easy to take care of. I was all set to get another until the dealer said my township is treating it like hazardous waste and I couldn't get a Hayward (only brand he sold) AG grid filter so I went with sand. Your theory about filters is a valid theory as I have heard it mentioned quite a few times in various training I have had, up to the point where the filter is too clogged and won't let anything through. All media just starts at a different filtering level. When I back washed the new filter I was amazed on the garbage it had taken out of the water, the DE filter always had a grey color when recharging the DE but the new filter the discharge was down right ugly! I have a few boxes of DE that I am keeping to coat the top of the sand filter if need be but I'm impressed with how the sand filter worked for the month we used it last year. I would say the downside is the fact you can't take the sand filter apart like I did with the DE filter and store it in the garage. That sand filter has grown roots and will never be moved again!

Okay sooooo sorry for the delay! We’ve been out of state for the last 10 days for cheer competitions and vacation lol. Thankfully things have progressed nicely and we are very very excited! Our builder and contractors have been incredible with communication, face timing, updating, and being extremely respectful of our property and animals! Here’s our current situation! And I’m attaching the information from our folder on equipment! They marked a few different things-February seems so long ago and I’m trying to remember what we went with. 🫠 me melting into an overwhelming amount of information lol. Everyone is so awesome here, thank you all for your feedback and help! There’s so much to learn and this is a fantastic space to gain knowledge from experienced pool people!
