We started construction on May 5th. Small crew, the builder and his own people but they are moving along nicely. He came highly recommended and I do like how involved he is. He has done all the work himself so far with his crew except for the rodbusting....there was a crew that did that.

We have a small yard so it will be on the small side, about 30' on the diagonal. Plaster finish, working on picking colors now...so many choices! Cartridge filter and SWG. Most of the pool builders here recommend against SWG, but having had one before really wanted one. I have sensitive skin and know chlorine would limit my use.

Hoping to be swimming by the end of June!

Here are a few pics from the start to now.

Here is the current status….been very slow since it was gunned. Coping is in and timing now. Went with a tiramisu travertine for coping and a split face for tile. The waterline will be blue. Plaster date is 7/17. It can’t come too soon!

You should get a few months of swimming out of it once it's done. Slowly but surely. :swim:
Our builder said 4-6 weeks from start and for sure we would be swimming by July 1st. It will be 7 weeks tomorrow. But not unexpected. I know two other people who are doing a pool or just got done and both have been months so I am not entirely surprised

After a lot of rain and many weeks of delays finally got the tile and concrete finished.
Unfortunately we missed our plaster date and don’t have a new one. Are all builds this frustrating? Original proposal had us finished from June 1st to June 15th and our builder said absolutely positively before 7/1. However when he got a plaster date it was 7/17 which we missed anyway. Gunite was done in May but now we are so close I can taste it!
The big delay has been rain.

the equipment has all been delivered and is sitting on the pad, just needs wired, piped and set.

so.....we are now so close I can taste it. Pool was quoted with 4-6 week completion date from start, which was 5/4 so we should have been swimming by Memorial day. Progress was good until gunite, which occurred on 5/25 and then it ground to a halt. The builder got a plaster date of 7/17 early June so I think he was in no rush since it was going to be another month plaster. However, it rained almost every day through June and July and we missed the plaster date and still don't have a new one.

The pool is literally complete except for plaster. Wired, plumbed, all landscaping done, sod installed so at least the muddy mess is gone. But we are so close! Fingers crossed we get plaster soon. Pics below.

My questions is that we are going to be out of town for a bit and it might be during the startup. How critical is it for the pool to be brushed twice daily? If I am not there to brush because I am out of town do I need to get someone to take care of that? I was not planning on having a pool service, I was going to do the maintenance myself. As hard as it has been to get plaster I hate to tell him not to do it until I am back.

TIA

Plaster start up is a very critical time. It most likely would be best for you to change your plans or change the timing of plaster application.
thanks for the reply. My builder said he would be balancing the pool until it is right but I had to brush. I have read the articles and I will talk to my builder about the process so I understand what he is doing and what I will be doing. I already have my TF test kit, and I previously owned a vinyl pool so I am comfortable on water testing and adjusitng.

Finally got plaster!!! Can’t wait to full tomorrow after wash. Woohooo…we are close now.

aqual cool with two bags of abalone and 2 bags of glass beads
