I need to unhook or drain the heater. I dont own one so I'm not 100% on this. I'm thinking just unhook the hoses n it'll drain on it's own? Please help me make sure I do this right so I don't destroy it. Here are pics of what he has.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will jump in.

I think I'd not only disconnect the hoses but also try to use a shop-vac to blow/suck out any moisture that may not drain.

I unhook mine and use my leaf blower to empty whatever doesnt fall out by gravity. The first year i had my pool the PB closed it and they blew the lines with the heater and SWG in place. They threw a garbage bag over it and said that was the extent of it. I promptly removed all the equiptment and stored it inside. I cant forsee any difference in me blowing it directly before storing it in my garage.

I blew the lines about 2 hours after I disconnected the pool hoses n not a lot came out. We get hard winters here with a lot of snow. I'm wondering if I should really put it away (in the shed) or could I get away with covering it with a heavy duty tarp? I'm not sure what he did with it. :(

So do I just unscrew this part here? I'm not sure what the heck I'm doing with this heater. Mom said he takes it in.

I don't like covering this stuff and leaving it outdoors. Keeping it covered and having trapped moisture will do a number on it.

I also don’t like it sitting in a snow drift for a few weeks every time we get a good storm. My pump and SWG go in the house so they never see freezing. The heater and filter are just too big so they get the garage.

Are you talking about the second pic? If so, I'll go back up the mountain and do it another day. I'm home now.

This is why I asked. I had to leave n get back home. I'm an hour away from his house. I just wish i would have taken the time to ask him how he did everything. I just didn't think our time would come to an abrupt end like it did.

That's one of the hardest parts for me. Not that I'm selfish and only want dad around for things like that, but it's all the more painful when I have to realize the reason all the questions are never going to be answered.

He did it all by himself. I asked my mom and niece who he raised and both of them had no clue. Only that he took it in. I thought about him all day while I was working on his pool by myself. I miss him terribly. I say "Dad" every single day. I just wasnt ready for this.

I find it helps me to use HIS cusswords instead of my own when doing his projects for my mom. (Some of the words overlap both of us, of course) I end up chuckling more than being upset at whatever project is giving me a hard time.

Casey, it's been 15 years and I still miss my Mama. I want to pick up the phone to tell her something funny the cats did just about every night.

I think you just get used to the loss, you never get over missing them. It just hurts less. It takes time.

And I agree. Disconnect the fittings in the second pic. That nut in pic 1 hasn't been touched in donkey's years.

He was thinking about getting rid of the pool last year n asked me if I wanted the heater. I was going to take it. He was tired of taking care of it.

The pool was actually a mess when I arrived yesterday. They stopped caring for it too. It wasnt completely green but it had visible algae n leaves all over the bottom. I wasnt happy seeing it because my niece's husband who she just married said he'd take care of it and he didn't. He came out swinging (yelling) right after dad passed saying he was in charge of the pool n demanding to know why I was messing with it with my brother?! He was power tripping . I eventually got him cooled off with talking to him (some words under my breath) n he said Dad left him in charge. I told him, I taught my dad how to care for the pool. He said, I'll take care of it. I get up there yesterday morning and the bottom is covered in leaves, the water level is below the skimmer so I cant run the pump. They are on a well and dad always trucked water in. So my hands were tied from the start. I dont know what the pool is going to look like in the spring. It stunk of CCs after adding chlorine and I just covered it. I didnt even bother testing after I added chlorine. There wasn't much of an option for me but to get it done n covered with being an hour away. I found myself complaining while in the pool saying, I'll take care of it. I won't let it go. Yet here we are. SMH I'm just gonna shut up now and clear it next year.
