More green water

24 x 4 round ag pool. vinyl liner. water is green

TA 130
PH over 8.2
CYA under 20 probably zero
just added shock, so FC is at 15.

Should we add stabilizer to increase CYA and muriatic acid to reduce ph, while we keep the FC up?

Definitely add stabilizer for a minimum CYA of 30. With no CYA, the chlorine is exceptionally harsh. Lower the pH to about 7.2. As you do those two things, confirm for us if the green water is algae related or possibly from iron (well). If it's algae, you'll want to follow the SLAM Process.

There is a well, but the water was clear last week. Do I just do a CH test to determine if it's algae or iron?

If the water is clear green, then I would do an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to see if algae is a concern. If you pass the OCLT, then we can focus on iron itself. If you fail the OCLT, then you'll want to start a SLAM Process.

In either case, I would highly recommend looking for a way to make your own DIY polyfill container to run the water through in an effort to capture iron. See the experience linked below for more.

The type filter shouldn't be a major factor either way. But the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test will confirm if there is algae or not.

Ok thanks. I was just basing off of the article saying that sand filters did a good job removing iron
