ive had some quotes to get my pool replastered and ive been told im missing a bypass pump from my pool to the spa. is this normal? how could this be omitted?

ive been told that in "Pool mode", water is sucked from the pool and returned to pool (to create flow and movement). at the same time, normally some water goes into spa to fill up a bit more and have water flow over the edge. i love this look. ive been told that i cant have that because of this missing bypass pump.

attaching photos. does this sound accurate?

my pump is Jandy e pump, HP: VSP, and filter is a Jandy CL 460.

thanks in advance

What automation do you have?

You use SPILLOVER mode on your automation to refresh the water in your spa and keep it chlorinated. SPILLOVER mode pulls suction from the pool and returns to the spa.

You don’t want the spa spillover running all the time as it creates aeration which causes your pH to rise more rapidly and require more acid additions.

What do you do to change between POOL mode and SPA mode?

i can see from your pictures that there are automated valves on the pool and spa returns so I would guess that you must have some sort of automation. So it should be possible to to setup and use "spillover" mode where water is drawn from the pool and returned to the spa (but on the Jandy automation this does consume one of the relay positions).

The other option is to adjust the cams on the return valve so that when in pool mode the valve doesn't quite turn off the spa returns, allowing just a bit of water spilling from the spa to the pool,.
