That is because you disconnected the heater from the ET. Now we know the heater is working and that is not the problem. The problem is with the control wire to the ET or the heater relay in the ET.

You have your heater working now. You want to dig into the ET panel?
At end of day everything needs to be working since pool is less than yr old. If I can fix fairly easily & avoid warranty service call out, I’m willing to fix it (or at least trace issue down to brass tacks before I reach out to Pentair).

You have a multimeter?

You know how to do continuity checking?

I circled on the bottom right of the board where the heater control cable connects with the relay.

Turn the ET off then disconnect the wire.

Turn the ET panel on. When you turn the heater on you should have continuity between the two screws. When you turn the heater off you should have an open circuit and no continuity.

Your problem is either a bad relay or a bad wire connection.

Do I need to reconnect the control wires (unjump) at the fireman’s area on the heater to do this test?
When you say turn the heater on & off do you mean via the button on the ET panel?

No. All we want to do is test if the relay is working and if the relay opens and closes.

Yes, on the ET panel. and set the desired water temperature to be 10 degrees greater than the current water temperature.

Looks like I have no continuity at the relay.... no tone from MM. Pushing the heater button on the ET does nothing. I get nothing at the button (no light when button is pressed) either.

Since it's new, the relay is probably fine.

Go through the configuration and make sure that everything is set up correctly.

What device are you using to control the ET

I do wonder if you are doing something wrong in operating the ET? Let me turn you over to @Jimrahbe and see if he can help you with the heater operation.

We need to get the heater relay responding to the ET app.

Is the light above the filter button on when you're trying to use the heater?

Adjust your spa or pool heat settings
From the “Heat” menu (MENU > HEAT > POOL TEMP/SRC OR SPA TEMP/SCR) you can select the heat source and set the water temperature.

Go to the heater menu to see what that shows.

If the light above the filter button is not on, the heater won't work.

Make sure that the Pool Filter circuit is on before trying to use the heater.

You can put the Easytouch in Service Mode and then press the Filter button.

When the light above the Filter button is On and the pump is running, you should be able to press the Heater button to activate the heater when the remote is connected to the Fireman's switch.

This is it, I'm super embarrassed to admit it but am going to in order to perhaps help someone else out in the future. There’s an issue with my operation / configuration of the automation at this point. I hooked back up the automation wires to the Fireman's switch & to the ET relay & now have the heater going via the app again....like it was for 3-4 hours yesterday before it quit on me.

Background cause of this (at least in my mind):

- A week or 2 ago after doing some research on the topic I dove into the configuration/programming of the EasyTouch/ScreenLogic stuff so I could have my VSP automatically running at differing speeds throughout the day i.e. 1 hour 'high skim', 6hrs 'low skim' type deal.

- In the software I relabeled what was my Pump under Pump 1 to "Pump Low"; I Left the Waterfall button as originally programmed by the PB; Added a node called "Vac_Pool" which runs the vacuum at the correct RPM; and then added a "Pump_High" node which is essentially a 'high skim' pump setting. I then relabeled some of the ET push buttons to correspond with my additions / name changes.

So, what I figured out so far today (with a lot of you guys' time to which I'm extremely grateful) is that in my case, the ET will only signal the heater relay if "Pump-Low" is activated in the system. Yesterday the auto timer shut off 'Pump_Low" at the requisite time it's programmed to & when it did that the heater shut off. Note: the VSP was still running at that time, just not on 'Pump-Low', the pump was running on the medium setting which I manually selected earlier so there was more flow going thru the heater (around 50gpm vs 40-something). Today, when I was trying things out to get the heater working with you all's help, I was running it on faster modes than 'Pump Low' & the automation hadn't called for 'Pump Low' to activate yet (it's set to come on later in the day).

I have a work-around to ensure the heater works via the automation now, which is great. What I still have is a software configuration lack of knowledge where I'm not sure what part of the system setup in the screen logic world I got wrong so that the heater will only work if I have 1 setting activated vs another.

Hopefully this thread will help others out in the future, I learned a lot today about the electrics of the heaters & such, which was fun in an odd way & will surely help me out down the road. Again, many many thanks for everyone who spent part of their Saturday helping this dumb butt troubleshoot hardware when I apparently have an automation software/configuration issue (that I inadvertently caused by my lack of understanding with the automation software).

Rich, glad you figured it out. I suspect it was an ET SW problem but I don't know the ET well enough to tell you where to look.

When @Jimrahbe comes by I think he can take you through the best way to configure the ET.

Glad to help!

The heater will only work in Pool (or Spa) mode. So your base set up should be the Pool mode. Then you can have higher RPM set for other functions. You can even have a Heat mode (that is set up within the Pool mode). When the ET calls for Heat, it will increase the RPM that to what you have set so the heater will operate.

Thanks. I’m not set up with anything to access Pentair config / control stuff via computer. I’ve just used the ScreenLogic & SL config apps. Is that software specific to Windows or is what you’re showing a web interface product?

Rich,

Those screenshots are from my windows PC.. Using the PC for programming is 10 x easier and is almost intuitive...

ScreenLogic has both Windows and Apple apps for computers...

If you use the phone, just show me, or tell me, what schedules you are running and what pump Speeds you have assigned to what Circuits..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Sorry for the late response, we had a death in the family & I’ve been dealing with that.
I mainly operate in the Mac world but I did just happen to pick up a cheapo Laptop PC to do some oddballl work related things on. Assume one can go to Pentair to download the software?

Installed Screen connect on my windows machine. Where do I find the screen you have in your 2nd pic above?

My last pic here is a screen shot from the Pentair SL Config app (showing circuit assignments)
