If you power the control box and check the diagnostic readings, that should give us an idea if it will work.

What's the serial number on the box door?

The serial number should start with 3A or 5A.

Also. They are sending me a bottle of the r-0008 for free to replace what wasnt included in the kit.

Interesting. I just had the same exact issue with the same missing bottle. (only I got the kit right from the start). Annoying.

The box is from November 2009. So, about 10 years old.

Looks like the thermistor is probably going bad. It's replaceable if you can solder. Quarter sized black disk upper right.

Other than that, I suspect that if you clean the board of spiderwebs and debris, it will probably work.

Is it possible this thing wasn’t struck by lightning and just got too hot and discolored. Is there a screw or 2 under the sticker to take it apart and possibly clean it.

It's a 10 year old cell. The discoloration is typical sun damage. The cell is probably dead. You can add the salt to the pool and try the system to see if it works. If the cell is bad, you can always get a new one.
