losing water to a certain point

I have an inground pool 18,000 gallons and have been losing water.
It stops leaking when it reaches the bottom ledge of the skimmer,for the past six months I have been adding water then I stopped adding it to see how far it would drop,it s been over a week and I did not have to add any more.Where could I start checking before I call a leak detection company.

I’d bet the skimmer has cracks, check it well. 2 part epoxy can be used to fix any cracks.
