I need some help. I have an IG inherited pool with attached spa. There are two lights in the pool, one in the spa. By the equipment pad there are three junction boxes for the lights- each box has a jacketed cable that must run to the lights. They are wired as such: white from the power panel- common to all three junctions boxes. Black- one black from the power panel is tied to two of the junction boxes (blacks). Similarly there is a red from the power panel common to two of the boxes (reds). Then a second black and red from the power panel common to one of the three boxes (again to the separate black and red) I can imagine the two pool lights are tied to one another- through two of the junction boxes, and the third junction box to the spa light. Nothing is connected to power, there is no low voltage transformer... Why would three lines (white, black red) plus a ground run to each light?

In the first picture the lower and upper junction boxes are tied to one another and the middle one is wired alone. All wires initially come into the lower box and flow to the others. I added the wire tags as insert this out. Thanks!

I noticed the valve actuator in the first picture, so it seems to me there is automation "someplace" - a panel outside and/or inside the home. Do you know how to turn the lights on or is that why you're asking? I don't know every type of light config but there are many types including those that run multiple wires for colors. Another option is to contact the prior owner and/or the pool company that either installed the related equipment or even the former pool service guys. Edit: It's also possible they were controlling things from a smartphone app, but there still must be a controller that processes the commands and signals, unless those advanced features are built into the pool heater which I think is starting to happen - but even then something has to receive the smartphone signals, like a wireless receiver.
