Lateral Assembly Question

Hello everyone. So I’m replacing the multiport valve on my sand filter this year as the previous one started leaking last year. I removed the old multiport valve, and now I’m having devil of a time getting the new one on there. It seems to me like the standpipe might be too long, since it seems to bottom out before getting to the filter body.

The standpipe is sticking up about 2” from the filter body; looking at other pictures, it seems like the standpipe is supposed to be recessed into the filter body. Does anyone know if the standpipe sticking above the filter body means it’s too long? If that is the case, can I just cut it to the right length?

It is the lateral assembly that was in there when we moved in. The old multiport valve fit, but VERY snugly, and I can see that the standpipe blocked some of the inside opening (where flow from the standpipe would enter the valve). Does that also indicate that it’s too long?

No, it’s not too long, did you remove all the sand so it sits flush with the top rim of the filter?

That will be my next task, I’ll try removing the sand and seeing if the lateral assembly is just not sitting on the bottom. I’m hoping that the previous owners didn’t just buy the wrong size lateral assembly.
