Is this impeller in good enough shape to reuse?

It's in overall good shape with no cracks, warping, etc. The threads inside the grommet are good too. My concern is the area where the black portion of that shafts seal sat on (portion around the grommet). It had a buildup of residue that I was able get off. Do you guys see any problems with reusing this impeller? Pic is after I cleaned the inside around the grommet real good.

I'd give it a good scrubbing with an old toothbrush and a drop of liquid dish soap.

The whole impeller or just around the inside portion? I've already cleaned the inside portion with some goo gone and a flathead screwdriver to get off all that old dried up residue from the old shafts seal.

Does it look like it's in good enough shape to reuse? If not, I'll get a new one. I was just trying to save some money.

Was your old seal threaded? If so, it looks as if you need new impeller. It all depends on your seal kit.

No my old seal was just pushed in and sat around the middle portion with the grommet and had a white ceramic piece in it. I've attached a pic below of how the impeller portion of the seal was attached before I removed it.

This pump uses the PS 1000 seal, one way of knowing if impeller is alright is by how snug the seal half fits. If it fits tightly and evenly all around you should be alright. Of course you're not showing the other side so it's hard to determine its condition

Yes you are correct, that is the seal (PS-3865) that fits inside. I have a new seal plate coming in with a new seal already attached to the seal plate side (spring half) and then I would just have to put the other half of the seal in this impeller. Just how snug should it fit in there?

The other side of what? The impeller or the other side of the shaft seal (seal plate side)?

The face of the impeller opposite the shaft seal side where the open suction eye is. Also on any of the openings, on the faces and all the way around the outside edge, is there signs of worn or feathered plastic.

The last pic is the seal side. It is slightly raised and a little worn on the circular edge of this side (where red arrow is pointing).

First two pics are the other side of the impeller (side that faces the diffuser and pump volute).

It doesn't look too bad the groves around the eye aren't horrible and the flaring around the seal area looks like some heat damage. I wouldn't say its looks bad enough not to work but it doesn't look new either. Without a new one to look at side by side its hard to say but I would be most concerned about the area where the ceramic sits because from the picture it doesn't look flat anymore.

Would it be better with a new one? Sure.
Will it still pump water with the one you have? Yep.

Should I maybe take a piece of sandpaper and smooth down that slightly raised portion (where red arrow is pointing) making the face flat right there?

It looks like heat damage and if the metal insert got overheated to the point where the plastic deformed there is no way from here to tell if that insert has shifted significantly relative to the body of the impeller. Ultimately that may be what has cause the binding if the impeller is no longer spinning concentrically to the shaft. The root cause would be to overheating from either a failed seal, the pump running dry, or running for a long time without any water flowing. Any of those things can cause enough overheating to deform the impeller/pump.

The seal plate's housing around the grommets were cracked bad causing the motor not to sit flush against the pump which caused the impeller to rub against the inside of the diffuser face. I'm assuming it go to the point that the seal failed and the shaft/impeller wouldn't spin because it was getting stuck on the diffuser face. I should be able to put the impeller back on the new seal plate and then make sure it spins freely and evenly all the way around right? If not, I guess I'll get a new impeller?

Update: I just spoke with a Pentair rep and he said that as long as the seal sits inside the grove around the grommet snugly and evenly all the way around, then it should be ok to reuse. He said to just make sure that the white ceramic portion is higher than that raised edge. One other thing he mentioned is that if it starts leaking then the impeller will need to be changed and I will have to remove the motor from the pump again which was kinda a PIA. Decisions...

Like I said nothing looks so bad I would toss the impeller right off the bat. It will probably spin fine but it's worth checking to make sure it's spinning true.
