We just had a pool installed in Canada and specified a pool depth of 5’ then with a phone conversation determined that it’s approx 4.5’ of water which is exactly what we wanted. Pool was constructed and landscaping finished and we started worrying the pool looks deeper than we expected. Sure enough top to bottom it’s 5.5’ (and approx 5’ to mid skimmer). The liner is not in yet so we’ve just contacted the PB to have it corrected as this is not what we wanted (and I now would not be able to stand in the deeper end as 5’ of water is too high). Is this fixable with our stone work around the pool that’s complete?

And also to re confirm… does pool depth by definition mean to the coping, or depth do water..? Regardless we made our wishes very clear.

Welcome to TFP.

There is no standard defintion of pool depth which is why we recommend people confirm with their builder that they are specifying the water depth from the middle of the skimmer to the pool floor.

Thanks! Yeah we did confirm and he did confirm it would be 4.5’ of water if we did the 5’ depth. Never thought we would have to measure, but just did once the landscaping was done and sure enough it’s too deep (5.5’ deep so probably would be 5’ of water). Is this a doable fix when landscaping is already complete? This depth is a deal breaker for us as now the majority of the pool isn’t usable to lounge by most people who aren’t as tall.

Liner is not in yet.

I would think the builder can build up the pool floor to the depth you want.

However the liner he ordered will probably not fit and need to be redone.
