Hey guys, 20x40 IG pool that has the pump running for winter, right now we are in a freeze up ans the entire pool has a layer 1/4”-1/2” thick on the pool, pumps runninf non stop and have a half full water bottle in skimmer so no freezing happening in there.

Should I break up the ice from the edges or at all? Or just leave it and have it thaw out naturally ( supposed to warm tomorrow and movinf forward )

Your pool a liner or plaster?

You should not touch the water in a frozen liner pool. The sides of the ice can be sharp and can tear the liner if the ice moves. In general, leave the water alone once ice forms on it.

Please create your signature with details of your pool. It helps us give you the correct advice.

Never touch the ice. Any breaks can make very sharp edges. Movement with sharp edges is very bad potentially.

Ya its a vinyl pool, its completely frozen on the top, back to warmer weather tomorrow and days following , so best to leave jt and let it thaw naturally?

Correct. Don't disturb the water until all the ice is melted.

Awesome thanks! If left undistrubed and let it melt itself naturally over the next week is there high risk for damage or more rare case?

Wonder if should put the heater on a bit to get it warmed a bit more once out of this
