Hi everyone! I need help. I had a new liner put in my 18' x 37' inground pool (19,000 gallons) along with new equipment. Needless to say, this was a nightmare yesterday. It has been very hard for me to find someone reliable lately.

After equipment was installed, they gave me no guidance as to how I have to operate this new equipment. I attached pictures and I'll list the equipment below. PLEASE help me be able to get this equipment programmed right. I'm new to a Salt Water pool. Thank you!!!

Equipment shown: (I put 15 40lb salt bags in our pool last night)
1. Hayward C4030 Swimclear 425sqft
2. Hayward Super pump 1.65HP VS
3. PureChlor Solax 40K Salt Generator
4. CMP Defender In Line Anode

Here is your manual for the pump..

You will need to set up your timers when you want it to come on and off and at what speed.. Are you goin to run 24/7 or 12 hours a day? That solax should be good to run 50% 24/7 or 100% 12 hours but it will take some testing and managing to see what you get after a week... Start at 800 RPM and go up 100 rpm till you SWG turns on and creates chlorine, then add 200 rpm, that is your RPM for normal SWG operation...

Have you added CYA? how much? are you targeting 70 or 80?
Take you FC level up to 7FC first using liquid chlorine then let the SWG take over.. If it drops down to 5 or 6 FC the next day run it longer or turn up the SWG 10%...

Dave, have any chemicals been added at all yet? How does the water look? Still crystal clear?
Texas.....I have not added any chemicals yet, just salt. I plan on testing this morning when I have a break from teaching. I had my water added yesterday from Aqua Duck, which is filtered drinking water. Crystal clear right now.

Get CYA and liquid chlorine in there asap... test your salt level using the taylor test kit to ensure the correct level...

Thanks Cowboy Casey......you were a big help in choosing the equipment last fall. I appreciate it. I just wish I received a rundown of the basics from the pool company when they installed it. I want to run it the least amount of time as I can, so 12 hours? Does the solax run even if the VS pump is not on?

I have not added CYA yet.....that is on the list today.....how much of that should I add? I'll also add some chlorine today

Really just in a tough spot with this right now......we have had issues every year since we moved in with the pool so I was hoping new liner and equipment would be a fresh clean start. I just want to make sure everything is set correctly

Use poolmath and put 0 for CYA and in target put 80 CYA.. same with chlorine, 0 FC and 7 FC in target add what it says..

Start at 800 rpm and go from there... when it starts creating chlorine add 200 rpm and call it good.. program that into the pump..

Did they connect your solax to a timer?

Okay so do 800 rpm for 12 hours a day?
They did not connect the Solax to a timer

start the rpm at 800 then go to 900 then 1000.. you looking for when the solax starts making chlorine... once it starts up that is your base flow needed.. add 200 rpm above that and now that is the rpm needed to run the SWG...

If there is no timer you should run 24/7... because if the flow sensor were to go out and the pump was off the SWG could continue to create chlorine and explode from the gas...

Okay so right now I have the pump going at 900rpm for 24 hours. I'll test tomorrow but I did put 2 pounds of shock in as well to get some chlorine in. I'll be able to get stabilizer in there tomorrow.

So if I have a flow sensor on the Solax, do I still have to run it 24 hours? I attached a pic of the cell and sensors

the flow sensor is a backup if the pump were to die/stop while the SWG was running.. It is not to be used as a primary means of stopping the SWG... How is your pump and Solax wired now?

Okay I got ya. So I'll still have to run it 24 hours even with those sensors on it as well as that flow cap?

I don't believe the pump is wired to the Solax now. I just have the wires from the Solax running from the panel to the cell. Is that what you mean?

I was hoping you had an old timer.. timers are not hard to install and that would allow you to run less hours...

I was hoping so too. The only timer I have is in the basement that was used for my old pump, but now that I have the VS pump, I just time that on the VS pump.

Perfect, that is what you use now for the Solax, connect it up just like you had the old pump and set the time the Solax goes on and off.. :)

Then you can run your VS pump any amount of time you want just start the Solax 30 minutes after the pump and turn it off 30 minutes before the pump turns off...

Oh alright awesome! I'll have someone do that then. Couple more questions haha.....

1. Before I get an electrician out, is it okay to just turn the Solax on and off manually by myself?
2. How do I know if the SWG is generating chlorine from the salt that I have in the pool without testing it? Is there a light that goes on when it is generating chlorine?

1. You sure can... for a couple days I would just run your VS 24/7 then change after you get the timer connected..

2. I am not sure.. does it have a clear cell to see bubbbles coming off it? It should have a light that says it is working... what is your FC level in the pool now?

Okay I will run it 24/7 through the weekend. Once the timer is hooked up, I believe you said to run the Solax at 50% and the VS pump for 10 to 12 hours....is that correct? I still have to figure out what RPMs the SWG generates chlorine. I'm on 900rpm right now for 24 hours

It does have a clear cell. I am checking the FC today after work. I have a bald faced hornet nest right near the equipment that is being taken care of today so I had to wait for that to be cleared to test haha.
