How to raise TA?

I use muriatic acid to lower PH, overtime my TA is starting to get too low. so i just use baking soda to raise the TA up? and continue to use muriatic acid to lower the PH?

seems like they are just fighting each other, but i assume the baking soda adds more TA than PH.

Yes, and yes.

What are you letting the pH get to, and what are you lowering it to? Some pools find their sweet spot at 7.7-7.8, so it could be that you were getting a little too aggressive in keeping the pH down.

running a 7.2- 7.4 PH to keep the staining off the fiberglass wall.

I run 7.2-7.4 as well, and I just added baking soda to my pool. Got TA up to 100 from 60. PH is staying lower now, how I like it The baking soda didn't change my PH at all.

What kind of staining?

In short, 7.2 is very aggressive for pH maintenance. Most people keep it in the 7.6-7.8 range. That said, there are "chemistry reasons" to keep it that low, and if you're in that boat, the TA additions will be a frustrating byproduct.

took my TA from 80 to 100, will slowly go back down as i add MA to lower the PH when it rises again.

lower PH 7.2-7.5 will help keep the staining off the fiberglass.
