How does your deck finish around the pool?

It’s becoming apparent to me that the decking choice we made when we built our deck was a mistake. The material we used under our carpeting was advertised as being ok for the application that we were planning to use it for, this is turning out to not be the case. We have a couple soft spots where the deck is rotting, so we are looking at replacing it. Pretty sure I’m going to just use standard 2x6 treated as decking. Just not sure how to finish the part that wraps around the top of the pool? There’s some pictures of the deck in the build thread in my signature for reference

That Stinks Jim. You built such an awesome deck. I guess it will still be awesome, just with fresh lumber. My vote is always for pressure treated. I love everybody else’s cedar, but it’s too much work. You can stain PT when you *want* to, not because you have to. Composite gets too hot and way too slippery when wet for around a pool IMHO.

I’m not sure that I could find cedar here.
The heat is why we strayed away from composite the first time!

I just set the joists low enough that I could tuck the decking under the top rails. I’m still waiting for it to dry out enough to stain. The first supplier ran out of lumber and I had to use a second. It matches better the more it dries, but it still bugs me that the lumber color varies. I’m confident the stain will deal with that.
