Wondering If anyone recommends using a pool cover in Arizona hot temps? Or should I just leave uncovered. I know pool cover also helps during Arizona monsoon season with dust storms.
I took my cover off today and stored it. I use it in April and May and again in September and October. Using it at night during those times keeps the pool warm enough to swim in.
During the summer you need the overnight evaporation to keep the pool water cooler.
I use a "Thermal Pool Cover", basically a 0.2 inch thick sheet of insulating foam with a completely block out outer layer. The theory is in summer it minimises heat gain, and shoulder seasons it maximises heat retention (versus a bubble cover).
Unfortunately haven't gone through summer with it yet, so can't comment on theory versus practice.
I've never used one personally. But a few in my area swear by them. Marty points out one of the best reasons that I have heard on why people like them here (extending the swim season).
