Hole(s) in cover, removal suggestions

We had an ice storm here in CT in October and I tree limb fell onto my pool cover (which we later removed). I'm assuming that the limb put some holes in the cover because I put the cover pump on there last night at around 7 pm and at 7 am this morning there was still a good amount of water on top of the cover. I'm assuming that the water from beneath is coming through the hole onto the top of the cover. I need to get enough water off to take off the cover and get the many leaves I'm sure are also on there off. Should I continue pumping the water or try another method? Thank you!

If there's a hole I wouldn't keep pumping. Start pulling the cover off and the water will funnel back through the hole(s). Just take it slow. You can clean the water up after you get it off.
