High copper

Hello, we just started our pool heater the last few days. Today I had my water tested and the copper was a little high. Is this cause for concern? We have yet to get inside the pool as it just got built in early January. The level of copper measured at .3ppm

Welcome to TFP.

0.3 ppm of copper is troubling. You need to find out where the copper in your water is coming from. Around 0.5 ppm copper can cause:
  • Green to black stains
  • Emerald green pool water
  • Blonde or gray hair turning green
Copper in pool water can come from:
  • Trichlor tablets, sticks, and granules
  • Shock products with "PLUS" in them[3]
  • Algaecides
  • Mineral systems
  • Ionizers
  • Deteriorating heater copper heat exchangers
  • Rarely from groundwater

Review the ingredients in all the pool chemicals you have used in your water.
