High CH levels and hard tap water issues

I read that adding borates helps with this and I will likely look at going with borates in the spring. My question is how do I get softer water? My SWG is always getting that build up on the plates and I hate the idea of constantly using muratic acid to clean them. So I hit them monthly with my garden hose to get the white gunk off and that usually helps. Our fill water here is ridiculously hard, which I gather impacts my poor SWG. What can I do to soften my water and protect the SWG? Thoughts?? CH at its lowest is 350, but when I have to fill my pool its 400.

By managing your CSI (Calcium Saturation Index (CSI) - Trouble Free Pool) you can keep your SWCG scale free. I maintain my CSI in the 0 to -0.3 range easily until my CH reaches well above 800 ppm.

Borates may help as they reduce the spike in pH with in the SWCG itself. I have not used them as I do not have any issues doing what I do now.

I see you have the Poolmath app and are sharing your test logs but you do not store any data. Doing so lets us guide you on changes you can make to keep your CSI in the proper range.

Right! I've read this but I still don't understand how to "manage" my CSI. :( The PoolMath app..where do I get it to store data?

You manage CSI by keeping your pH and TA in ranges that allow the CSI to be at the level you want with your existing CH and water temperature.

If you subscribe to the app, it stores the data. Just be sure to save your test results by touching the check mark in the upper right of the screen.

Got it. Thanks!
Aj, Ive been contemplating added borates to my pool, and have decided to do so this coming spring.
From my understanding of how you described Your particular pool’s chemistry, you might also think about
the boric acid, might be a better fit for your pool than borax alone.
Blessings

Next Spring, (unless I talk myself out of Adding borates), I will be sure to post any noticeable results, to the forum....SO STAY TUNNED!!! For those who might be interested....what differences the Borates may (or may not ) make ....in our particular pool 🤷‍♀️
👍
I’m always open to good ideas
But I also like keeping stuff as simple as possible
So I go back n forth ...
....leaning towards boric acid ....
But, this is just Monday ;).....

I hear ya and yes, I'd love to see/hear about the results! I'll share as well.
