I have these stains that will not go away on my steps. They keep getting worse. They will not brush away. Any suggestions on what it could be or to do?

Have you ever had your pool or fill water tested for metals? What is the source? Well or municipal? Any algae outbreaks recently?
Sorry I have been out of town. It has never been tested for metals. It is municipal water. I just opened the pool. I tried the Vitamin C tabs to see if it lightened it up and it did nothing.
Next step is to put a chlorine puck on the stains for a minute or so. They could be residual organic stains from a previous algae issue. If the trichlor puck fades them, it's likely organic and they could fade over time as you maintain proper sanitation.
