help with equipment please

Hi, we are in the quote process of an inground pool build. So far, each build is just listing generic equipment like Hayward salt chlorinater or Pentair cartridge which is making it difficult to compare apples to apples. I'm hoping to get help with what is the best recommended equipment I should ask for. With the heat and COVID our builders are very busy and I want to try to streamline the process as much as possible, by giving them the exact list of what I want and see what feedback/quotes I get from the builders. The pool will be:

- L shaped, with stairs across the entire shallow end , diving well will be the short part of the L, we do not want a baja shelf or attached spa
- Size, I have two quotes already for: from company A- 16' x 36' with 16' 16' diving well, company B - just stated 16' x 40' without measurements for the small part of the L
- depths will be from Co A - 4' to 5' long part of L and short part will be 8' diving well. Co B - 3'6" - 5' - 8' and 8' -8'6"
-gallons A -19,500. B- 24,000

I do know we want:
Pentair equipment
Salt water generator. I know recommendation is twice the size of pool, but if we go with 24,000 gallons do we really need to go up to the IC60 or will IC 40 work since it's just a slightly over 20,000 gallons?
Cartridge filter - provide recommendation please
Variable speed pump - again what model would be best to ask for?
Heater recommendations?
Pool lights, we know we want two color changing lights
Automation - but what do I ask for? Pentair IntelliCenter? is there a specific model?

Things we have quoted which we may or may not add are pool slide and a couple of deck jets. I'm wondering since we are going with stairs along the width, could we put a couple of bubblers there like people put on a baja shelf?

I know I'm asking for a lot of help and I really appreciate any feedback provided. This is an awesome source of information and I do plan on supporting.

No expert here but this is what we ended up with....

Pentair 011056 pump
Pentair i8PS
Filter CCP320 (could have went bigger but it's over 3X what the engineer wanted to put in)
Heater (Don't know if you're doing gas or heatpump): Pentair 460958 140K BTU heat, 71K BTU cool
Lights: 4X microbrites in the pool 1X in the spa. We were going to do the regular lights but were convinced to change.

We have 2X color changing bubblers on our sunshelf but it'll depend on the size of your shelf and what you want.

JJ,

I am a great fan of Pentair equipment, but most pool builders tend to use one brand of equipment.. So, there are Jandy guys, Hayward guys, and Pentair guys.. This means the first question you should be asking is what equipment brand do they use...

If you go with Pentair, you should ask for the new IntelliCenter.. The only pump that Pentair automation can control is the IntelliFlo (style) pumps. The bigger the filter the less often you will need to clean it.. I would recommend the CCP - 420 or 520..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Teg,

Keep in mind you live in Florida, the "land of the dinky filters"... :poke:

I am always amazed at the filter size in most of the Florida pics we see here at TFP...

Thanks,

Jim R.

Good point I think I'll have the largest filter in the neighborhood :) My feature filter is larger than most pool filters around here I think

Hi, we are going to be building an L shaped inground pool. I really would like to have auto cover and google tells me it can be done. Basically each side of the L gets one and they meet at the intersection. I'm wondering if anyone here has this and would like to hear their thoughts on does it work well and worth getting. Thank you
