You should drain no more than 1/3, or if your pool is rectangular with deep end, you can go as far as leaving 1 ft of water in your shallow end. Honestly, I'd go with the 1/3.

So, I just tested the CYA outside, and it shows just over 70. I guess the difference is I was checking it inside this morning in a low light situation, vs the test just now outside in the light of day. So I guess i still need to drain some, but not quite as much. Will I have to start SLAMming it immediately after refilling, or can it wait a day or two?
And what does my filter valve need to be set on when I turn off the skimmer and drain using the main drain? Backwash? Waste?
Decided to go the slow route and use a garden hose and gravity. Should the pump be shut off? Do i need to do anything with the filter?
