Help digging in rocky soil to fix leak

I’ve discovered that I have a small air side leak somewhere outside my skimmer box underground.
I started digging and found a pool of water, and I can hear the air leak somewhere around the red circle in my photos.
Unfortunately I can’t seem to easily dig any further because of what seems to be rocks or concrete surrounding the plumbing, shown in blue. There’s even more rock underneath the water. I’m able to very slowly chip away at it with a hammer but there must be a better way. Do you think I need to rent a jackhammer to cut out all the surrounding rock and keep digging deeper? Can I replace or repair the pipe without having to dig anymore?

If you can clean that pipe up and get it accessible, you might try slathering PVC cement all around the joint best you can. Let it dry for a few hours and see if that fixes it. Being a suction leak, there is a good chance that will work and I have permanently repaired PVC leaks with this method.
