Hello. First time pool owner. This year I purchased a pool with a heater. The heater has a thermostat, so when it gets to let say 75degress it shuts off and is in standby mode. What is better efficiency based on cost and benefit factor ; leave the pool heater thermostat to turn on and off based on temp or shut off and turn on before using the pool?

I've read that incorporating a timer is a good idea. But the hayward manual says it is not necessary.

What are your thoughts?

Welcome to TFP.

What type of pool?

You have a pool cover to retain the heat you paid for?

In general with a fast heating gas heater it is more efficient to heat the pool on demand before you plan to use it.
