Here are the latest stats:
Jan 18th-March 26th - 5 gallons @ 1/2 gallon per week
March 27th - April 12th - 2 gallons @ 3/4 gallon per week
April 13th - May 3rd - 5 gallons @ 1 1/2 gallons per week
May 3rd - June 3rd - 8 gallons @ 1.8 gallons per week
June 3rd - June 23 - 8 gallons @ 2.8 gallons per week
June 24 - July 15 - 13 gallons & 8oz of Trichlor @ 4.1 gallons per week
July 15 - Aug 3rd - 9 gallons & 16oz of Trichlor @ 3.15 gallons per week
August 4th - Aug 14th - 3 gallons @ 2.5 gallons per week

I think my chlorine usage has peaked and is on the way down. The one variable I have not factored in to my chlorine use is the position of the earth in relation to the sun. The impact of summer solstice (Jun 21) makes a lot of sense. My chlorine usage seemed to have peak during the late June time frame which is when the sun is most direct toward the northern hemisphere and the most daylight. Chlorine has decreased over the past 6 weeks as sunlight decreases and becomes more indirect.

So far I have spent 263.80 on Liquid Chlorine and still have around 9 gallons remaining in the dispenser. I thinking I'll end up around $310-$330 while maintaining YTD FC average of 2.9 and CYA of 26.

With your omnilogic setup, does it store historic data for actual ORP and pH so that you can look back over several days, weeks, months and see trends, or does it only show it to you in real time?
It keeps 7 days of data. The way it works is any time ORP, PH, Air Temp or water temp changes a complete entry is logged. I usually have 600 entries per day. You can create very basic charts. See sample below of chart view and grid view.

The PB’s electrician came out to troubleshoot the intermittent tripping of the GFCI the Chlorine dispenser is connected to. He found that the GFCI installed was not outdoor rated so he replaced it. If this does not resolve the issue then we are going to RMA the dispenser.

Thank you for a great forum entry. I am too in the middle of a new Sense & Dispense System. So far, so good!!
That’s great to hear you are having success. Under the right conditions I have found the system to be very stable and precise.

I agree. I find that most pool owners and several so called maintenance companies do not understand pool chemistry. Chlorine lock is a real issue for cya applications. Trichlor tablets are a huge issue down this way and before the “shortage” I found almost every pool I inspected or consulted on was well over 60 ppm of cya and some were well over 100 and the owners were frustrated…. It amazes me at the all the people that do not understand the concepts of LSI and CSI, or CYA and chlorine lock. I have a pretty complicated pool setup and this was my last item to install. Let’s share some data and notes.

Ok, I get that the term is not used correctly but the levels of chlorine that are required to effectively sanitize the pool at high levels of cya are almost always too hard to achieve and the easiest way to explain it to the lay person is indeed lock….

I posted to be sure casual readers of this thread understand that 'chlorine lock' is a pool store term.

Good luck on your ORP use long term.

I know it’s not likely to be the solution for me. I am hoping that Hayward has something about to roll out that is similar to the Sutro technology with re-agent sampling and cloud storage that will better fit this application. Anything is better than manually dosing this monster weekly…

I currently have my ORP set to 715mV which is yielding around 3-4ppm which aligns with the lates 1.3 gallons per week yield. I've noticed that as the weather has gotten colder the chlorine level has increased at the current ORP setting. I cleaned the probes just to make sure this is not causing any measurement issues and if the FC stays the same I am going to lower my ORP to 700mV to see if I can bring it down between 2-3ppm. I might even bring it further to more around 2ppm as the risk of Algae will be lower in the cooler water.
