Hayward sand filter multiport is making a hissing sound

On the "filter" setting it is making a hissing sound and the heater read low pressure. When I backwash, the flow coming out is much lower as well. I've been backwashing frequently (2-3 times a week, since I have a slide hooked up to a hose that is causing the water level to rise). When I turn the filter to recirculate (bypassing the filter), the hissing goes away and the heater low pressure light turns off. So I'm running it on recirculate for the moment.

Do the multiport gasket heads eventually wear out? I've moved here 6 years ago so I have no idea how old this thing is...

Thanks!
Scott
