Hi - can anyone tell me if skimmer ports are generally using standard NPT threads? I used a hardware store pvc 2” plug in my Hayward skimmer last winter and it was tough getting it out when opening. I’m looking around for a 2 inch plug with an O ring and see some by Pentair but not Hayward. Are they all using standard NPT threads and should be interchangeable?

Yes, but sometimes the threads get damaged by the installers. If you use a plastic plug put some teflon tape on it first, makes it easier to remove

Thanks for the tip. Looks like the threads in the skimmer are damaged. I see bits of the sealant used to connect the underground plumbing in the threads and they also feel rough and out of alignment to the touch.
Any way to fix them? Or can I use a non-threaded plug like a rubber expansion plug over the winter?
