For my 13,200 gallon pool should I go with the CircuPool RJ-30 PLUS or RJ-45 PLUS? My concern is not price so much but rather if I go with the larger capacity RJ-45 PLUS will it possibly be rated to large so as to generate so much chlorine that even if I config it to it's lowest output settings will it still generate too much chlorine for the eight hours a day that I am currently running my single speed 1hp hayward maxflow xl pool pump.

I had this pool resurfaced four weeks ago and have been keeping the chemistry balanced since PB disappeared after getting paid for the job about two weeks post-initial fill-up. Since it's been at least four weeks post-resurfacing I'd like to now begin transition to SWG for sanitation.
By the way, per the super awesome, helpful info on this forum I've used the NPT resurfacing startup guide to continue the start-up process after my PB took off for maintaining chemistry levels and have also been using Magenta Stuff as a sequestrant. BTW, I'm new to pools and just bought this house w/pool located in the Daytona area about two months ago.

My pool currently has an old pre-Hayward Aqua Rite SWG controller (circa 2004 maybe) with an extremely sun-bleached, old looking generic/knock-off brand cell so I've decided to just start fresh with a new SWG system when I transition from post-resurfacing liquid chlorine for sanitization to a SWG system.

I was planning to install a new Hayward Aqua Rite since that's what I have now but after reading many threads here and some independent research on my own have decided to go with the CircuPool RJ+ Series of SWG due to their reliability, reputation, ease of operation and long warranty.

Any advice is much appreciated...

Hey, welcome to TFP!!! :swim:

You can control SWCG output with pump run time AND SWCG %. We generally run our pumps to filter, circulate water to mix chemicals, skim, and heat. Any reason you are choosing 8 hours?

We always recommend a cell that is at least 2 x the volume of your pool. The bigger the cell the longer they should last. For the extra $$, I'd get the 45.

Also, the RJ series has 5% increments in output. An RJ-45, in your pool, running 8 hours will produce .3 FC. Likely not enough on a daily basis in FL, you will likely need to run higher than the minimum 5%. Should be good to go!

Welcome to TFP!

The RJ45+ would be the better choice for your pool volume. The price difference between the RJ30+ and RJ45+ about $150 for approximately 50% more chlorine output over the life of the cell.

Follow TFP methods and keep CSI in check.
How are you testing your pool water?

Thanks for the response and advice! For the past three-ish weeks I've been daily testing and as needed and adjusting balance and FC/CC using a POOLMASTER 5in1 kit and a bottle of generic test strips. Also lots of brushing and vacuuming due to the recent resurfacing start-up. I've been able to keep it all good so far - even after the last hurricane that overflowed the pool and dumped a trash can full of leaves in it LoL after some pool enclosure screen tore away. It's also been demanding regular muriatic acid to keep/lower pH to/at 7.6 even though I'm maintaining a steady 100 for TA - I assume this is due to the very recent resurfacing. In spite of all this and my being a pool chemistry maint newbie the water's crystal clear and no cloudiness or algae blooms, knock on wood. I also stopped using the test strips for FC/CC/pH/TA after about the first week as they seem useless since they are nowhere near accurate compared to my 5in1 kit - I am however having to to still rely on the strips for CH and CYA till I get a new 'real' test kit. The PB added stabilizer when he filled the pool so that should be fine and not shift aside from the dilution from the recent hurricane. Also and from what I've learned so far on the Forums here I ordered a Taylor K-2006C that should be here next week so I can then get real-accurate reads of all these values moving forward.

Thanks for the response! I'll probably just go with the RJ-45 then. Much appreciated. I didn't think even thinking about the math you shared to determine the output over 8 hours. I'll remember this.

If you have a smart phone, download PoolMath. Link --> PoolMath

You can use the "effects of adding" function to play with % and run time...

Thank you for sharing this. I now have the Pool Math app and can use this really helpful SWG what-if-analysis feature. It's very cool!

I'm a little late to this party but i have the same size pool and would.also recommend the 45. You'll want the extra HP in the summer, and while you may be higher than recommended levels in the winter, that's not so bad. You can always turn off the generator and use liquid chlorine or tabs if you feel the FC level is too high with your Circupool. You'll need to do that anyway because at some point your water twmps will be too cold to run the generator.
