First time opening pool

I am wondering if anyone else has noticed that liquid chlorine that is purchased at the beginning of the year is not at full strength of 12.5%. This may be why you need so much chlorine for the slam. I believe the chlorine that has sat in a warehouse over the winter loses some of its strength. Is there a way to test it's strength?

Chlorine definitely breaks down over time. More so if it is in a hot or sunny place. There should be dates on the cases they come in or bottles - five digit numbers. The first two digits are the year, the next three the day of the year. So if it doesn't start with 20 at this point and starts with 19 it won't be full strength.

I think our SLAM is complete. Hardly any overnight chlorine loss. I can see the bottom of the deep end. I’m waiting for the chemicals to arrive to adjust the calcium.
Now should I adjust CYA? What’s the next step? Our SWG will be installed in a few weeks.
Today: FC 9 (still dropping from SLAM)
CC:0
TA: 60
PH 7.2
CH: 130
CYA: 30

That looks really cloudy from that vantage point. Can you clearly see the pool cleaner?

Now I’m thinking we may need to do more SLAMing. Although I can see the bottom, it’s still a little more cloudy.
