First SLAM in 10+ years

Ha ha, I ride by an Ollies almost daily but never thought to go in to look for pool chems. Acting on your suggestion I went tonight and lo and behold...pallets upon pallets of 10%....and only about 30 days past it's birthday. I picked up 11 cases (of 3 ea) for the pool at our property up in Johnstown, and will go back tomorrow to stock up for the new build here at home in Monroeville. Since I signed up for their rewards program, I'll save an additional 15% on my total tomorrow, so I'll definitely be stocking up.
Thanks for the suggestion!

You are very welcome!!! Now you know where to go! Just remember you have to get there about this time every year because once they are out, they are out.

Trying to figure out this new format on my phone. My apologies. I just SLAM'ed the pool again from a swamp. I went to the pool store and bought DE. came home and repeated everything I had done in this thread and nearly a week in and my pool is not clear. The difference... I was sold Aquaperl which is a direct replacement for DE. I do not like it. AT ALL. I went through a 12.5lb bag. Then opened the other bag. For the last 3 days I've been waiting for a clear pool n I've only gotten a gritty mess in my filter and no pressure. Its garbage in my opinion and I'll go elsewhere to purchase the actual DE or order it online if my local pool store carry the Aquaperl. I had DE left over from last year and I'm using it now. That's the only difference I can pinpoint and why I've completely stalled at this SLAM. I'll keep you all updated on this.

Aquaperl is getting a big thumbs down from me.

Hi, Casey,

Good to hear from you. Casey, you know your pool and you know this TFP stuff......you are a true expert.

I would just mention that most of the time, a decent working sand filter will finish off a SLAM without the need for DE at all. It's done all the time on the forum.

Have you ever tried to SLAM to completion without the DE?

I need the DE because I have a DE filter Dave. I have to update my signature again because I deleted it last year because I was going through a divorce and left the homestead. My husband and I have gotten back together and the pool suffered emensly again and I had another foot reconstruction on my other foot. I'm just getting things back together again. So I'll get to that signature and fill it out. Thanks. It's nice to see you again.

Casey,

I've been here for about 4 years. This will be fantastic to encourage new "first time slammers" scared to use massive amounts of bleach in the first two days. I'm bookmarking it for that purpose.

Congrats and thanks for sharing this!

Chris

Dosing through that first initial stage and getting everything off the floor of the pool is very important. I did everything the same as last year and I saw the results. However... the Aquaperl stalled me considerably. I'm back to DE and saw the bottom of my floor tile last night with my flashlight.

Welcome back!

Thanks pooldv. It's good to be back. I've stopped in periodically. I took my granddaughter to a public pool last year that was actually pretty clean. I even snuck water out for testing and it passed my n my granddaughter's pool snobbiness. lol The pool we used was always crystal clear and I think, just for fun, we will go back this summer because she liked the fact that it was an inground pool. Here are a few pics of the pool.

I fixed my pump after a bolt vibrated loose. Took it apart, cleaned the seal n added Jack's O Ring Lube. I added chlorine after 3 days of being idle. Pool looks good though. Couple days n I should pass the OCLT.

I just wanted to update with my second full blown SLAM of pool ownership. I started last week. Here are some pictures. I, unfortunately, was using AquaPerl DE. That alone stalled my progress. In my personal opinion, it is not a good replacement for DE. I then had a pump malfunction that took 3 days off my progress. I'm going to perform an OCLT tomorrow night and see where I'm at.

What kind of automatic cleaner are you using? I am looking for something new to try.

Took some pictures after adding Baking soda yesterday and testing today with a good vacuum. The floor was pretty cruddy. I'd say I hit the sparkle.

I'm done SLAM'ing this pool and will cover it this year!!!! I dont want to do it again!!! Its a lot more work than wrestling a pool cover!
