We have been having some issues with our heater- this led to us realizing it would not stay fired when our pump was running at low RPMs. The pool company also diagnosed something else with it( which I can’t recall). We were out of town, so after we returned, we fired up the heater and increased the RPM. The heater is still cutting in and out. (That isn’t really my question here, although you may have a thought)

We increased to 2200 and 2300. Then decided 2500 & 2600 just to see if it was a flow issue. It didn’t seem to be. However, started looking at filter sticker. We have CCRP200. I notes the filter rates etc on the sticker, which I’ve attached. When I run our pool we probably operate around 10Psi. At 2500-2600 rpm it took us up to the red line. Does the whole red line mean clean? I just cleaned 2 weeks ago and I use skimmer sock. I feel a bit puzzled as the CC200 shows flow rate of 150 but 150 on my gauge is red. Do we misunderstand? Are we thinking about this too hard? Did we put in too big of a filter for our size pool?

No such thing as a filter that’s too big. The gauge marks are meaningless unless it’s set to zero/clean after the filter cleaning. If normal operating pressure is 10psi, then consider cleaning it when the pressure rises by 25% (when it reaches 12.5psi).

But 2600rpm is very fast pump speed unless you need that for water features or a cleaner. Normal filtering speed can usually be much lower.

The red zone does not matter. Every setup runs at different pressures. What matters is to observe and record the pressure at a certain pump rpm after you completely clean the filter and start it up.

The pressure will change with speed so you need to always check the pressure at the same speed from which you took your initial reading.

For example, say your clean filter pressure is 15psi at 3000rpm. You are okay until the pressure rises 25% of the clean pressure reading. In this example, 25% increase of 15psi is 18.75psi. So, once your filter pressure reaches 19psi at 3000rpm, it is time to clean the filter.

As far as the heater. Some have either a flow switch - which cuts out if the flow (gpm) is too low. Some have a pressure switch that cut it off when the psi is too low. Some have both.

The reality - you likely either have a bad flow or pressure switch in the heater. Usually, those parts are cheap and easy to replace, so while having a knowledgeable tech that can verify the issue is good, the overall cost won't be outrageous or take very long.

Pick 1 of these to make smaller:
  1. Pool filter size
  2. Bank account
  3. Car's horsepower
  4. I'm trying to keep this PG, but I'm sure there are a few more options to add

Most of us on here would pick something other than pool filter size to make smaller. The bigger the better on those.
