Filter cleaning

I clean my cartridge filters about every 3 months. I use a garden hose and it takes about an hour to clean all 4. Once, my neighbor suggested I fill a trash can with diluted muriatic acid and submerge the filters to make them white again. I did this. It made a big mess but the filters came much cleaner. Do you guys do this and if so how often, every time you clean, once a year?

I just rinse. The discoloration doens't effect the paper's ability to filter. If someone was concerned about heavy oils and lotions that may be trapped on the cartridges, they need to make sure they throughly clean the carts with a TSP detergent before applying any muriatic acid. Otherwise the acid will fuse the oils and junk to the paper and make them useless.

Rick,

Curious why you clean your cartridges so often? I only clean mine twice a year and I'm sure I could go a whole year between cleanings if I wanted..

Does your pressure increase that much in three months?

Like Pat... I don't care what color my cartridges are as long as they work..

Thanks,

Jim R.

I do have a few trees close by that clog things up a little Even every 3 months I find a considerable amount of small plant junk in there. I googled the TSP and see it's at home depot. I might try that to ensure that when I hose off the filters I'm also cleaning them.

Rick,

Do you use hairnets in your skimmer baskets? They catch about 90% of all the junk that would otherwise go into the filter...

Your thinking is mixed up......that Golden sincerely believes the pool is there for his/her pleasure and if he/she leaves a little dog hair, it is your responsibility to have it cleaned up and in pristine condition next time he/she decides on another dip. The skimmer socks will really help you with that now that you understand who really controls the pool!

Rick,

You should think about it... They cost about $10 bucks for a 100 of them...

I love them.. The only downside is that I run my pump pretty slow, so I have to add a rock to the hold the hairnets against the bottom of the baskets when first installed.

Thanks,

Jim R.
