Dry acid

I'm having to lower my pH regularly on my new pool, which I understand is to be expected.

I use small doses (say 2lb) of dry acid, can I add that directly in the deep in by the main drains or so I need to dissolve first?

Can it ruin my plaster of I just add the acid?

Welcome to the forum.

You should not use dry acid. It adds sulfate to your water that as it builds up will degrade plaster/cement and will destroy metal.

Use muriatic acid. You can buy it at Home Depot/ Lowe's or pool stores. Be aware of the concentration. Full strength is 31.45%.

When adding the acid pour it in a small stream at a return with pump running. To insure it is well mixed you can also use your pool brush in that area to mix.

Use PoolMath to determine how much you need.

Do you have a proper test kit?

Take care

Pool School - Test Kits Compared

The two proper test kits that give you the tests you need to keep your pool sanitary and algae free are the Taylor K2006C and the TF100.

Pool store tests are not reliable, repeatable, or accurate.

Take care.
