Couple of equipment questions

Hello!

As I'm becoming more and more familiar with my equipment, I've got just a couple of things I can't figure out. Can anyone help with what this is? It seems to be a spring loaded little door. I was on another thread discussing why my pool keeps filling up after every rain (have to drain manually almost ever week here in Orlando, FL). Not sure if this is related or not. I've been draining via the spigot off of the pump with garden hose (See pic). I'm actually considering changing the spigot to a larger one to run 1 1/4 inch hose off of to drain. Would be faster, no?

Second picture is of my pump system and while its likely a silly question... What does the "cleaner" option do?

I'll post pictures of my floor too. I thought I had two main drains and two hydrostatic pressure drains. Any help is greatly appreciated. Especially with our pending hurricane!

The spring loaded cover is for a suction side pool cleaner. You can also attach your vacuum hose there. The spring loaded cover is a safety device and should always remain in the closed position if a hose or cleaner line is not attached to it.

At your equipment pad, the line labeled "cleaner" is connected to the port i the pool with the spring loaded cover. In your picture, the cleaner line is off - as denoted by the wording on the adjacent valve handle.

Look inside your skimmer to see if there is an open port at or just above water level - or look for a grate along the tile line at or just above water level. If there is one of these, that would be your overflow line. If you have one, check to see if its blocked with debris.

Many times, the hydrostatic pressure relief valve is incorporated in the actual main drain - under the cover. No idea what the extra -different - cover is in the pool bottom. On your return side plumbing, is there a pipe at the equipment labeled "deep water return" or the like?

Sorry for the delay guys. Got caught up with some cleanup from Dorian and having to get my stuff balanced out again. You were right about the vacuum port. I actually used it to clean this last time!
See pictures below. One of them I am pointing to the only pipe I do not know the function of.

S,

Return water generally goes to one of the following places...

Pool returns eyeballs normally in the side wall of the pool
Pool Returns pops ups normally in the pool floor.
Spa
Water Features such as
Waterfall
Bubbler
Fountain
????

There is no way for us to know what you are missing..

What happens when you open the valve?

What does not work now???

Thanks,

Jim R.
