Chipped waterline tile

We are building our pool and we decided for a glass waterline tile. After the installation I realized that some tiles are broken and maybe 20% chipped. Is it normal imperfection (like our pool builder said) that glass waterline tile is chipped or just bad quality? I don’t know the manufacturer but I feel sad to pay so much money and be stuck with a chipped tile. I really appreciate your recommendations! Thank you!

Hi and welcome to TFP! Sorry to be meeting this way though. :(

This is someone being in a hurry and not having pride in their work. They should have noticed the bad ones and cut them out of the sheet. Saying that the cure could be worse than problem. They are libel to do more harm than good by chipping the tile around these.

I say stand back and look at the big picture! That is some of the prettiest tile out there. No one else will even notice. If someone takes the time to look for the boo-boos they know where the gate is and can use it to leave LOL

Thank you! I’m worried if after time will this tile break completely or chipped/creak more. I don’t want that someone get hurt. I’m curious if I would have the same problem if we would choose other material like porcelain?

I don't THINK it will crack any more. That happened when it was shipped and worked so it should be stable with the plaster and grout around it to protect it. Now if any of those are "sharp" ones then we might want to rethink that one being left alone.

-installer said they cut out the bad ones (if any)
and THIS is how is should be!

Thank you for your answer. Still I didn’t pay for a chipped or defective product. I have maybe 30% chipped tiles and I think that’s a lot. I will go to the tile store and ask them about the quality.
question: do you know if I would have the same problem with a porcelain tile?
Thank you

No you certainly did not. This gets really tricky becuase fixing it could end up worse than looking at it like Kim said, but thats on the builder also. Sloppy workers continue to be sloppy when they get away with it. Tell them you want it fixed or a fair credit in exchange for leaving it.

The porcelain tile would be put on one at a time so it would be much easier to see if there was a problem and they MIGHT pass on using that tile. With the tiles you have they are all on a sheet of mesh or under paper so they have to work to find, remove, and replace the bad tiles. If they don't have pride in their work they will (did) leave the bad ones :(
