Check Sand Filter?

I’ve been getting lots of sand in my pool, even after I vacuum it out to waste. Now my pump is losing its prime at lower rpm’s. My sand filter seems to be making noises when I speed up my VS pump. Can I just remove the top of the sand filter and take a look in there? My pool is only a year old and I kept it open and running all winter.

You probably have a broken lateral. In that case you do need to empty your sand from the filter and inspect them.
