Hello all!

Installation began February 4th and has gone smoothly. By the end of today the pool grading should be complete with equipment plumbed and set on the pad. There will be more grading with the concrete decking and patio installation, but it will likely take a couple weeks to coordinate electrician and concrete schedules.

Attached are a few pics from the first two days.ExcavatorArrival.JPGDigBegins.JPGSandySoil.JPGPoolCavity.JPGTightSqueeze.jpgShellPositioning.JPGShellSet.JPG

Nice!!! What type of FG pool and what company? Never seen that pretty gray color before. What's it called and what does it look like filled?

I'm wanting a FG pool for maybe 2022-2023 so stalking here, especially FG threads until my magic time comes!!!

I considered several companies, as well as FG vs Vinyl vs concrete. For our situation we chose Charleston Pool and Spa. There was another company we liked, and some we did not. The pool we chose is the Prosecco model from Watertite Pools, and the color is China Blue. The pool is now filled, but installation is not complete and the water is pretty muddy. Once the lighting and water quality improve I will add a photoSpeckles.JPG. During filing the sun highlighted flecks of pink, silver, and blue that were a pleasant surprise. The attached photo only captures some of the effect. If you check out Watertite there is a gallery with several examples of the China Blue color.

Great! Can't wait to see it installed!!!

Will you have the cement deck come all the way to the surface of the pool or have a separate coping?

Is this your first FG pool?
We will have a simple 4ft cantilevered concrete deck, nothing else. Yes, this is our first FG pool.

We had a lot of rain recently, so progress has stalled. We are still optimistic that by Saturday the pool equipment (except backordered heat pump) will be set on the pad, the rest of the trench dug, and the equipment plumbed. The electrician should be out soon to do his work, then the biggest item left is concrete (we are also pouring a tanning deck, patio for the hot tub, and a walkway).

After rain and scheduling delays we are back on track! Electrical bond inspection being scheduled for next day or two, then on to concrete decking. All plumbing, pump, and SWG are in, with the exception of the back-ordered heat/chill pump - hopefully arriving next week.

Concrete decking is in! We are now down to the minor details: cleaning the pool, installation of heat pump (still backordered), completion and compaction of gravel, installation of sod and other landscaping, arrival of Adirondack furniture, etc. The hot tub should also arrive in a few weeks and will go where the Big Green Egg is temporarily located.

I like the cantilevered concrete to the edge, why did your opt for that vs coping. I've never really been clear on if coping is NECESSARY in a FG pool ( or any pool for that matter) or if it's just a cosmetic thing. Does coping help with expansion/contraction of the shell for less cracking?
Thanks for your question. I confess to being largely ignorant of the various options. In our case, the cantilevered concrete made the most sense: we wanted a simple, uniform finish that was relatively inexpensive and doesn't limit our options going forward. The concrete performs the locking/anchoring function with the pool, and we can tile or stain or add one of those cool surface coatings in the future. This approach also allowed us to immediately get the most out of our budget in other areas: patio furniture, hot tub & patio, salt system, heat/chill pump, etc.

Even if we had the funds, I'm not sure I would have gone with travertine or other options at this point. I love those looks, but just don't like how they can shift over time.

Sod is in (not green yet), some patio furniture has begun to arrive, pool is now nearly clean, and salt has been added. Water temperature is 72; with the solar blanket and heat pump scheduled for install this week, we should be swimming next weekend!
