When you open your pool you have to get cya in asap to help hold FC. But at same time your back washing to clean your sand filter. Which washes out your cya so you have to add more.

I think I put in around 16 lbs and just checked my level and it's at around 55 ppm. So I add 4 more lbs. hopefully that's it for awhile. I have a swg running at 75% to just keep up. I tested water today and my Fc is 1.5

Question.... if cya stays in water why every year I'm at zero? I know I'm back washing but zero?

On a good note I bypassed my heat pump this year by putting two multiport valves and my stains are non existent.

If you have a green pool, requiring a lot of backwashing, I would not raise the CYA above 30ppm until the SLAM process is complete. Then raise the CYA and let the SWG take over.

How are you adding the CYA?
