I think that is a Pentair Amerilite.

What is the problem?

You can try cleaning it up but rust destroys metal. There is a point where it has outlived its useful life.

If one has rust Inside light fixture
If a new bulb is bought and If
most or at least some of the rust is Able to be wiped out from The bottom of the light fixture-(where the bulb screws in)
Any change the light will still work?
fixture over 10 years - water had gotten in it...I saw the water when I pulled up onto deck

Thank you so much for responding
Question, can one test their Old fixture with a household bulb of same socket size? (Seeing more snakes this year than previous years, and miss the pool lit up)
question: So since Pool light Is Pulled out Of niche and up on deck, but As per photos, There’s rust inside The socket-and since I haven’t Yet tested with a new bulb, dunno if a new bulb is all that’s needed - or
as you pointed out rust can affect the steel - so probably Or good chance will need an entire new light fixture
Since I dont want to experiment with a $35.00 New pool Bulb (While it’s up on deck)can one Test using a $7.00 60watt outdoor flood light (with same size Socket base) Vs Testing with a $35.00 pool bulb- I was told if it’s bad fixture it could ruin bulb)
I would test on deck only - Would not submerge the non pool light. I would buy new pool light if my old fixture can light up a bulb.
am I on the right track?

Somewhere the light is leaking, since the water was inside the fixture. It looks like the contact portion of the "Edison Screw" seems to be rusted. I think you are taking a chance on re-using the fixture.

I just replaced my Hayward LED lights with standard Hayward fixtures (with an Edison Screw). This involves a new fixture with continuous cable strung through the conduit back to the light circuit. The length of the conduit and the number of turns determines how difficult the job will be. One end of my pool is barely 15 feet to the circuit box. The other was around 70 feet through conduit and a PITA.

I then replaced the 300-500 Watt incandescent lights with LEDs in the sockets.

When the inside of the light socket is rusted away the light fixture is gone. Rust cannot be cleaned. Rust is a chemical reaction and has to be neutralized or it continues even after you remove the visible “rust”.

Replace the light fixture.
