Here in SC I ‘close’ for about a four month off-season. Closing consists of a leaf net over a solar cover, SCG dialed to O%, pump/filter set to run four hours per day in the early morning, testing and maintaining all chems, and sanitizing with liquid chlorine. So far, for 2+ seasons, I have not bypassed or drained the heat pump, just setting it to ‘stand-by’ (there is no off setting).
My question is, what should I be doing regarding ‘winterizing’ the HP? Continue to circulate water through it in the off-season as I have been or is there some good reason to bypass and drain it?

Continue doing what you have been and circulating water through your HP.

Why do you think you need to do something different?

I don’t necessarily. I only can see that I have the capability to bypass and drain so just wondering if the many people here smarter and more experienced than me might see something I don’t.

Only reason I might bypass is concern if you had an extended freeze with power outage. Kinda depends if you have a contingency plan. I over worry about everything, its a sickness lol.
