By Owner in Phoenix: started up!!

So coping is in and we are now down to the edging tile for steps and benches. It is so nice! Jonas who us doing the tile is an absolute perfectionist and we love him for it. He's meticulous at every placement.

The name Jonas sounds familiar. He might have done ours. Our guy was very meticulous. He also spoke zero English so I couldn't talk to him about it. The cap on our spa was difficult because our spa was formed weird. It took him 3 or 4 days just to do that. I was getting a little frustrated and talked to Rosie about it. She told me I made him nervous because I would watch him 😂. I didn't mean to make him feel like I was looking for him to do something wrong, I just liked watching my pool get done 🤷🏻‍♀️.

I bet it is the same guy. He has very little English but my very broken Spanish and his few words of English make it workable.

We had a miscommunication because I didn't realize he would cut the spa travertine bullnose so Rosie explained how they do that (buy 1 16x16 and cut it, vs buying 2 bullnose 12×12 which are about $4 more each, so the labor to cut the 16x16 is much cheaper and there are no seams. That was a bit too complicated for him to explain to me but other than that we've been able to communicate ok on placement, location, areas to add or remove something, etc.

He is absolutely meticulous. We got him a $100 walmart card as a tip. It's not nearly enough for what he's done. We did toss a couple of Coronas in the ice chest for him too, which he appreciated at the end of the day 😉

Looks good! Yes, I took the forms off myself on my pool. My forms were a little different, but it took me a lot longer than I expected.

It’s been a very fascinating process learning what each trade is responsible (and not responsible) for.
Our forms were a BEAST to remove. Some spots I had to just chip away as much as I could. Not many more satisfying feelings than pulling a whole board form out intact though...like a game winning shot.

Cleared green pre plaster and final inspection.

Also, fire pots arrived and they will be installed and hooked up soon too.

The end is in sight!!
Awesome! Your build seemed to go so smoothly! Congratulations on the great job!

What finish did you decide on?

I'm just amazed at how fast your pool is going. Every time I read an update from you or the other o/bs here in the valley, I feel so bad for my 2 friends going on a year and they're not done. One was told tile last week and plaster this but not sure if it actually happened. Another story to add to the benefits of o/b.

They are going to set that date after finishing the yard. All through RVCA so they want it clean before plastering so no dust or debris gets in the mix. Should be very soon as they are moving super fast.
And I understand why they said that since basically the entire yard finish will be under their warranty. There is tile dust flying all over, and rhe wind is kicking dirt and dust everywhere. Right now the yard looks as wild as it did right after excavation, just different piles of things around since we are putting stone on our patio as well.

Getting close to done with landscape. Monday will see the porch and patio pavers, finishing the planters up, which have the same mosaic inset as the dam wall. Then the turf and rock. Then the plaster and woo!

One thing RVCA did that I liked was set up a drain system under the turf area to take rainwater away and down the side yards. That way rain won't pool during monsoon. Their suggestion and I'm so happy. We did that for a boy scout project for one of my sons friends so I'm surprised I didn't think about it.

Ugh, it looks like my lights won't work with my Omnilogic automation. I had thought we'd purchased hayward lights but ended up with Poolexa LED. Hayward are on super backorder.

These can be set up via Bluetooth or app, so not all is lost but it doesn't seem they can tie into the automation from what I'm researching. Anyone know more about lights and Omnilogic automation?

I have now purchased hayward ones. They should be here on time. They have more shows anyway.
