Hi just got a new rheem pool heater. After it starts up it starts to make a whistling sound like it’s haunted. I saw other thread where people have variable speed pumps and increased the speed to get rid of the sound. I have a single speed pump so I can’t increase the speed. I did notice if I play with the gas turn off valve the sound goes away. Did anyone who had this issue figure out what was wrong?

It sounds like a flow noise. Does it stop immediately once the heater shuts down? Or does it kind of fade out?

Yes, especially if this is propane, water column should be checked. Is this a new heater as in replacement? Did you upgrade the size (BTU)?
I’m running a replaced brand new natural gas heater and it’s the same size BTU. Previous one didn’t make this sound.

Just in case someone else has the same issue. It seems to be related to water pressure. I have to backwash the sand filter to get rid of the sound.
Yes, My Rheem heater did the same thing. Same exact sound, It's a flow issue. I had to increase my flow to 2800 RPM to make it go away. My PBl said he had to adjust the flow governor, which apparently worked because I no longer have the issue.
