Brand new Pentair SI - Cleans Wet Deck & Shelf Seating

Since a lot of old threads have OP’s asking if any robot will navigate & clean step/wet or sun deck areas I can offer the following initial report:

With my pool out of the box it’s climbing over essentially 2 steps to get on my wet deck & then runs around cleaning the floor & wall tiles in that area too. It also climbed on the pool length seating surface we have on 1 side of the pool without much effort. It does ‘wheelie’ around for a bit once over the step up to the wet deck but then goes about its biz.

Note: My wet deck & pool-length seating are at a water depth of 18”.

Margaret @ Marina recommended this unit to me earlier in the week. Today it arrived & I had it in the pool within 5 min. Super easy deployment. iOS App connected with zero fuss. Manual steering works, not sure how much I’ll use it, but it did work the 1st time I pulled it up & tried it.

Had been using a suction drive Pentair Rebel since the pool was built last mid-June. Initial impression of the SI’s cleaning power is way better than the less than 1-yr old Rebel it’s replacing. Way better.

I have a question or two as I have a suction rebel...

do you leave it in every day or remove it?
do you need to remove/clean the filters after every cleaning?

Thanks. I don’t leave it in when we swim but It’s not swimming weather or we are too busy with travel softball so it stays in the pool and vacuums every morning for a few hours.

I know I’d definitely save on electricity. Pay back for me would be around 2.5 years depending on which model I bought.

im lazy and don’t want to have to pull the device out every day or clean the filters. Just trying weigh out the pros and cons.
Thanks for responding. I appreciate it.

I have also been leaving my nautilus cc Robert in every day as I have him on a twice daily schedule in automation mode. He has only spent a couple nights outside of the pool in the month or so since he joined us.
We aren’t in swimming weather yet either so not sure how often i’ll remove him when that comes. I pull him out to clean his basket every few days unless there was alot of obvious debris in the pool.

I totally understand where you're coming from with weighing out pros/cons of a robot. I think there's prolly way more pros for most folks, but maybe not for some. I was/am amazed at the amount of silt the robot trapped in just 2 hours & the pool wasn't even dirty enough to vacuum, I just wanted to try the new toy.

Above said, I have zero capacity issues with my pool's filtration as I spec'd out the 520 line of cartridge filters for my pool build (overkill to some degree but what I have has hella dirt holding capability), so I wasn't really looking at weeding out much debris/silt before it could get to my cartridge filters, but the robot goes a ton of places the Rebel can't & that's what I a huge thing I was looking for by going to a robot.

do any of the robots go up stairs or will do a sun shelf/Baja step. I have a 9’ x 10’ shelf that is 8” -10” deep. Wondering if they would work in that shallow of water or make it’s way up there.

I see my Pentair Warrior Si go up onto my sun shelf, and other steps/benches I have in the pool, though for some reason it doesn't seem to clean as well up there, it always seems to collect dirt over the off-season, even though the robot stays in the pool and runs at least a few times a week (we don't close here in California).

Thanks. Right now i brush my sun shelf and steps to make sure whatever is up there makes it down.

My SI does my 18” wet deck & ledge no problem. Margaret @ Marina pool said that for the SI as long as the water will cover the unit it will have a chance at working those areas.
My deep end bench seat/swim out is 16" deep water depth. Do you think the SI will be able to get up on that bench and clean it? You say yours is 18" deep. Does the SI just barely get up on your 18" deep bench with no room to spare, or do you think it has at least a couple inches to spare?

Also, my tanning ledge (what I believe you are calling a wet deck) is 9" deep. Do you think there is any chance the SI will be able to get up on and clean my 9" deep tanning ledge?

Would hate to tell you something, you drop 7-fiddy on one & it not end up working for you on those surfaces. I’ve only had mine for 2 days so I’m def not any expert with them. Maybe talk with Margaret at Marina pool & spa to get her thoughts.

Wet Deck, tanning ledge, sun deck are all synonymous in my book. In Vegas the PB called it a wet deck in the contract.

It will not work on a 9" shelf as that won't cover the robot up with water. It needs to be able to suck in water to propel itself.

It does 2 of my steps routinely, and surprised me the other day by getting up on the 3rd but not for long. My water level must be higher than usual for that 3rd step up.

Is the robot the op is talking about the Warrior? I am new around here and currently researching robots for my pool (the waterline tile is being installed currently) and when I search for Pentair SI it gives me Warrior.
