Hi Pamela,
welcome to TFP!

its hard to tell by the pic... if you have one of all your equpment it might help in determine all of it.

TYpically though, from what I can see in the pic, that flexible tubing to connected to a pipe underground. THat pipe goes into the wall of the pool, and that fitting in the wall is what a pressure side pool cleaner, such as a Polaris 280 connects to.

I dont know what the steel band is for unless is a 'fix' that someone added for whatver reason they might have.
Does that band have a screw head on it, like a radiatore hose clamp does? Or any tabs which might be grabbed with pliers to squeeze the band tight?

If plumbed properly, there shoulnt be any need for a band or clamp (if thats what it actually is).

Also,
if you could fill out some info for your signature, then that info will help whoever comes along to help you. Just put however much you know. It sure would be appreciated. http://www.troublefreepool.com/content/115-read-before-you-post

The silver band is a reinforcing band. It comes from the factory like that. It is not removable.

There is a 3/4" female threaded hole that takes a 3/4" male threaded adaptor. You can replumb with hard pvc, flex pvc or one of the booster pump hose kits (Pentair, Polaris etc.).

To remove the fitting, you have to cut the pipe and unscrew the fitting.
