Bleach or Shock Powder- Which is the Better Deal?

Comparing the two...

Walmart Bleach - 182oz @ 6% = $2.67

1lb Kem-Tek "Shock Quick" - 40% "Trichloro-s-triazinetrione" = $2

Not sure how to do the math to compare liquid chlorine to powder chlorine. But the Shock Quick seems to raise my chlorine levels more than the bleach. Is that the better deal?

Plus, it's stabilized, right?

It's really kind of apple to oranges as a comparison. You use one when you want CYA and the other when you don't.

The problem with the tri-chlor is potentially raising your CYA/stabilizer levels too high where the only practical solution to lowering them is a partial drain and refill (unless you are lucky enough to live in an area with a reverse osmosis pool service). If you need to raise the CYA and need to shock the tri-chlor may be the right option, otherwise it is best to get your CYA levels to the correct point and keep them there through very occasional use of tri-chlor or dry or liquid stabilizer.
