Better Aboveground Widemouth Skimmer?

I have an old Atlantic AG Pool that is giving me nothing but trouble. This year I hard plumbed it and had to replace the skimmer with a new Hayward piece. This skimmer has given me nothing but trouble. I could not get it to seat on the butterfly gasket properly, and after the 3rd try I ended up with a few stripped screws and a faceplate that cracked into 4 pieces. Is there a better option I could buy? Maybe something with metal inserts for the screws or a flat mating surface instead of the hollow cavities?
